Maureen Croissant Prairie was not a typical child growing up in Thunder Bay, Ontario. At a very young age
Maureen was working in the entertainment industry dancing and modelling in televised commercials,
department store catalogues, flyers and advertisements.
Maureen became the keyboardist and back up singer for the Canadian rock band Driver in the mid-seventies
until a tragic accident, killing three of its members, brought the band to a crashing end in 1976.
Maureen was a mere child of 15 when she joined Driver and was forced to grow up quickly as her dreams of
becoming a rock and roll star soon turned into a nightmare at the abusive hands of Driver’s manager. Theirs
was a typical story of ‘sex, drugs and rock & roll’ with a Steven King type twist. The band often considered
themselves hostages within their group and Maureen commented that their situation with their manager was
almost a type of ‘Stockholm Syndrome’.
After the end of Driver, Maureen went into a 33 year seclusion, resurfacing in 2009 when family members of her
former band were finally able to contact her once again. During her hiatus from music Maureen has continued
to be involved in the entertainment industry in one form or another. Maureen has been active in Martial Arts,
specifically promoting and developing martial arts performance teams. Besides holding her 7th degree blackbelt
in Wushu Kung Fu, she has managed and promoted her demonstration, competition and performance teams
across Canada and the United States from 1996 - 2005. In 1997 Maureen and her team performed on the Jerry
Lewis MDS telethon in Minnesota. She has actively promoted her team, participated in a documentary about
sport Karate in 1998 and has been awarded several achievement awards in her field.
Maureen is also an accomplished songwriter, writer and author. She has written several fiction novels and short
stories and her most recent triumph are her memoirs written about the time she spent in her band Driver. The
Book, “Rock and Roll; Crash and Burn - the Driver Story,” is currently being written into a screenplay for film production.
Maureen has teamed up with a number of major label songwriters in Nashville and in Canada to produce new
songs for an album to accompany a current project she is working on. She has recently recorded a demo CD in
Nashville of her original material co-written with a Nashville songwriter. Maureen has co-written songs with
Nashville greats such as Jerry Vandiver, Tom Templeman, Bill Warrington, Ian Gentles, Lorna Flowers, Debbie
Pascarella and Ray Tarantino to mention only a few.
Maureen continues to pursue her music career as a songwriter and musician. She has recently relocated to the
southern Saskatchewan area and is looking to form a new band. Maureen is a member of NSAI (Nashville
Songwriters’ Association International), SOCAN and Local 591 AFM/CFM. Maureen is Director of Fahrer
