Artur’s Story

I have received details from Artur W. who had exactly the same approach (so closely worded that it would have to been copy and pasted). He took it a little further and, after being sent a contract for the job (which was originally dated wrongly) he was then asked to pay £230 “costume deposit” which would be refunded at the shoot. The money was to be paid into a bitcoin wallet account. He was taken through the method of using Moonpay.io Bitcoin Bank Transfer and initially asked to make the amount 230 BTC. Artur checked this and responded that 230 BTC was equivalent to 8.6 million USD! He was then told to make it £230 and copy and paste the account number sent into the wallet for payment - 1JneNTgaSXhuUZAMPvGKE8UFwm2MEM7vWE - sending a screenshot to check it had been done correctly. At this point Artur sent the message “So this is how you steal people’s money” and had the reply “Okay” after which he blocked the number.

He reported this to Action Fraud Line and there is now a reference number NFRC201104028873 which can be used for any further actions.
